The EPA has issued a mandate to all trades remodeling homes built during 1978 or before. The mandate specifies that remodeling contractors must work lead safe using abatement techniques to eliminate the spread of lead dust starting April 22, 2010. The contractor must attend and pass a exam by a state certified instructor.
PHB Construction LLC is compliant and accredited by the state and has used this technique for years on all remodeling work. Many remodeling contractors are planning on raising their costs by up to 30% to comply with the mandate. PHB Construction LLC does not plan on raising our costs ONE PENNY already having all the equipment and experiance from 15 years of lead safe remodeling.
Let's face it; remodeling can be a dirty job. A serious amount of dust and dirt can be generated by most remodeling activities including window and door replacement, plaster repair, drywall finishing and cutting most any material to size. The dust from one cut of tile or 2 x 4 can leave a layer of dust throughout an entire room. With the remodeled area sealed off any dust, contaminates and even smells produced by construction work within the home are eliminated.
The use of negative air and containment is not new as it has been used in the abatement industry for years. The principle is simple. Contain the area with airtight temporary walls and use a powerful air mover to produce negative air pressure in that area. All dust, harmful or not remains trapped in the confined space. The dust is then filtered and expelled though an exhaust tube harmlessly outside the home.
Lead dust is a serious concern. Not only a nuisance to clean up, the airborne particles generated by renovation can contain lead. Children seem to be especially vulnerable to lead dust and with sufficient exposure can produce life long injuries.
